Description

Chicken Shawarma is a fragrant, marinated delight infused with spices, perfect in pita or over rice.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chicken thighs or breasts
  • 2 tablespoons cumin
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon turmeric
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Pita bread or rice for serving

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix cumin, paprika, turmeric, minced garlic, yogurt, olive oil, salt, and pepper to create the marinade.
  2. Add chicken to marinade; coat well, cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
  3. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  4. Place marinated chicken on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes until fully cooked.
  5. Allow chicken to rest, then slice into strips.
  6. Serve in pita, over rice, or in a salad bowl with garlic sauce.

Notes

Marinating the chicken overnight enhances the flavor. Leftovers can be stored for 3-4 days in the refrigerator.
