- 2 tablespoons dark cocoa powder (for glaze)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
- 2–3 tablespoons heavy cream (or milk/espresso)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes.
- Stir in brown sugar, egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract to the yeast mixture.
- Add flour, cocoa powder, instant coffee (if using), salt, and softened butter. Mix until fully combined.
- Knead with a dough hook for 6–7 minutes until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 60–90 minutes.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and roll it into a large rectangle, about ¼-inch thick.
- Mix the filling ingredients and spread evenly over the rolled-out dough.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 pieces.
- Arrange the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch pan and let rise for another 60–90 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake rolls for 30–35 minutes, or until lightly golden on top.
- Prepare the glaze by whisking powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla, and cream together until smooth.
- Spread the glaze over warm rolls before serving.
Notes
These rolls can be prepared up to the second rise, then refrigerated overnight before baking.
