Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3–5 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the buttermilk, lemon juice, lemon zest, vanilla extract, and dried lavender.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Frost with buttercream frosting and decorate as desired.
