- 4 eggs (separated, room temperature)
- ¾ cup caster sugar
- 125 g melted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¾ cup plain flour (sifted)
- 2 cups lukewarm milk
- ¼ cup icing sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 340°F (170°C) and line an 8-inch square pan.
- Whip egg whites until stiff peaks form; set aside.
- Beat yolks and sugar together until pale and fluffy.
- Mix in melted butter, vanilla, then flour until just combined.
- Slowly add lukewarm milk until the mixture is smooth.
- Fold in egg whites gently.
- Bake for 35–60 minutes until a golden top forms.
- Cool completely, dust with icing sugar, slice, and enjoy.
Notes
Can be made a day in advance; store in the refrigerator covered tightly to prevent drying out. For longer storage, freeze in an airtight container for up to a month.
