Description

Delightful sausage rolls with a rich, flavorful filling of pork mince and French onion soup mix, all wrapped in golden, flaky pastry.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) pork mince (ground pork)
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix (or 1 cup sautéed onions + 1 tsp onion powder)
  • 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed if frozen
  • 1 egg, beaten with 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
  • Cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • Fresh herbs (thyme, rosemary, parsley)
  • Chili flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the pork mince, French onion soup mix, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and cracked black pepper.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut them in half lengthwise. Place filling along one edge of each half and roll tightly.
  4. Seal the edges using a little water or egg wash.
  5. Brush the tops of the rolls with the egg and milk mixture.
  6. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving warm.

Notes

These sausage rolls can be made ahead of time and frozen before baking. Bake from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
